At the recent Quilts On The Red quilt show in Grand Forks, it was exciting to see that ribbons hung on quilts from FM Quilters. Congratulations to all!

Mary Gerken’s quilt “Your Place or Mine” not only won First Place in the Handwork Personally Quilted Category but it was also selected for the coveted Viewers Choice prize. Mary said “My quilt is from the Wendy Williams pattern by the same name. I cut all the triangles and many of the wool circles with Accuquilt, but it still took me 26 months to complete all the piecing, applique and quilting.

Her second quilt to win an award is “All Dressed Up for Halloween.” It won first in category 4A, Wall Hangings personally quilted, and is from a Buttermilk Basin pattern.

Colleen Carlson brought home several awards. “Safe Hex” was awarded a First place ribbon in the Holiday, Machine Applique category.

Colleen’s “Fun House Mirrors” was selected for a special award as Best Innovative Quilt sponsored by Creative Dimensions Quilt Academy & Supply of Minot.

Colleen portrait of a 1920s flapper “Millicent” received a Third Place ribbon in the Art Quilt Category. She said this raw edge college with embellishments was mad strictly for fun with friends.

“Garden Gate” received a third place in Kits/Group. This charity group quilt was made for the Angles Challenge at QuiltCon 2022. There were required colors and the design needed angles but not a ninety degree angle. Colleen designed the quilt and Madalyn Lind quilted it on a stationary machine. Seven area quilters constructed the seven rows of the paper pieced design.

JoAnn Watson received a Second Place ribbon for “Mulberry Gates” in the Wall Hangings Quilted by Someone Else category.

And her “Icelandic Flag” also won a Second place ribbon in the Quilt Kits Personally Quilted.
