Highlights of Quilts In The Garden Tour

The inaugural Quilts In The Garden Tour was a success by many measures. Although the day was very hot, no one seemed to mind the heat because QUILTS! The most common reaction from visitors was “please do this again!”

Virginia received a lovely thank you note from some members of the Fine Arts Club

Dear Ladies,
I hope all your beautiful quilts are tucked safely indoors; just in time as we are getting a nice downpour of rain. Just wanted to say Thank YOU for a wonderful quilt/garden tour.  The 3 of us really enjoyed the whole thing. My gosh you are all so talented in the quilt making. It was a feast for the eyes, both in quilts and gardens, what a great combination….Thanks for a fun afternoon

So many volunteers to thank for helping to make this event the success it was.
Aura Lee Mohror’s front yard made it clear this was a stop on the tour..
Visitor’s to AuraLee’s garden found a welcome treat to enjoy in addition to the quilts.
AuraLee hung her art quilt about book burning over her firepit.
Many lovely little vignettes displayed the quilts to advantage.
A vintage crazy quilt looks like it’s just waiting for someone to stitch on it at Aura Lee’s
Maybe someone snuck their blankie into school?
Debbie Richman’s Tiny Shop was open for visitors to browse in. Shop cat Gilbert kept an eye on things
The show included quilts that were for sale like this cute little house quilt which was on display at Debbie’s garden.
Little quilts found a place on Debbie’s fence above some tall phlox that had finished blooming too soon for visitors to admire.
There’s nothing like Debbie’s wooden fence for showing quilts.
Even the Green Man enjoyed the crowds at Debbie’s.
Of course, an umbrella was just the thing. Thankfully it waited until the end of the show until it started to sprinkle.
Kim Baird’s shaded entryway featured some colorful quilts which stuck to her metal siding with storng magnets.
Did you know Kim plays the accordian?
Every corner of Kim’s garden had something to admire.
Kim’s shady arbor displayed flower themed quilts.
One special feature at Kim’s house was a “Quilt Shelter”- a table of vintage quilts that were given to her by a friend hoping she could help them be adopted into a loving home.
Ryn Pitts posed next to one of her colorful creations.
It was clear from Peggy Spitzer’s front yard that there were quilts to enjoy.
How nice of the plants along Peggy’s side pathway to bloom like mad just for this tour.
Peggy didn’t have a fence to hold quilts so she got creative with hanging.
Peggy also reaped the benefit of magnets to hang quilts on the side of her house.
It was hard to tell if visitors appreciated the quilts or the flowers more.
Clare Degerness has lovely little pocket gardens in her back yard to feature quilts.
The stucco siding on Clare’s house posed a challenge in finding a way to hang quilts but she managed beautifully.
Even Clare’s garage door made a fine hanging spot.
Virginia Dambach’s lush plantings brought the garden themed quilts in her yard to life.
A clothesline stretched between the limbs of Virginia’s giant crabapple tree offered some welcome shade and more quilts.
Where magnets weren’t useable, command strips came in handy on Virginia’s neighbor’s fence.
Virginia’s backyard had so many things to see visitors didn’t even mind the construction zone in the back yard. She’s pleased to report that after months and months of delays, her screened porch is finally starting to take shape and many of these plants can move back into their usual home around the porch.
