FM Quilters were represented in the winners circle at Quilts On The Red 2023 in Grand Forks, ND. Congratulations to all our quilters! Job well done.

Bonnie Anderson, Wahpeton, was awarded a third place ribbon in the Art Quilt category for her quilt “Gifts of Africa”. She says about this quilt “It was a challenge quilt for the 2019 Minnesota Quilt show. I was required to use the hand dyed fabrics in red, gold, blue and green and to choose up to 4 other fabrics that were identifiable of an ethnic group. I have been to Kenya several times. I chose to depict some birds- Guinea fowl, Golden Crested Crane, Starling, a little chicken along with an Achaia (Thorn) tree, hibiscus, and tea leaves.”

Virginia Dambach, Fargo, took first place in the Handwork category for “Dinah’s Ancestral Garden” which she made for her youngest granddaughter. In the description, she says “Dinah’s Ancestral Garden was made when my grand daughter moved to her “big girl” bed. Each flower is a favorite of a family member – Great Grandma Mary (morning glory), Great Grandma Ruby (zinnia), Great Grandma Rita (gardenia) along with a host of aunts, uncles, siblings and friends. Names are embroidered in a subtle pale green on each block. Broderie Perse butterflies grace the quilt along with borders of hexagon flowers, braids, and flying geese. All flowers are hand appliqued and names are hand embroidered using a variety of stitches.”
In addition to Bonnie and Virginia, several other FMQuilters were awarded ribbons. New member Crystal Two Hearts brought home an award. Mary Gerken, JoAnn Watson and Colleen Carlson each won multiple ribbons. Congratulations to all our winning quilters.
