2023 FMQ Excursions Announced

Get out your calendars and mark the dates! The FMQ Excursions Team hit the ground running and hasn’t slowed down. Aura Lee Mohror, Kathy Melaas, Wanda Ressler and Virginia Dambach have planned, scheduled, priced and are ready to announce upcoming excursion opportunities near and far!

In response to Susan Curtis’ wonderful presentation on The Gendered History of Pockets, we’ve scheduled tours of the Emily Reynolds Costume Collection Saturday, January 14th and Wednesday, January 18th . Tours are limited to 10 participants per session so register as soon as the form goes live on the website! Cost is $6. Register here.

In February, we’ll caravan to the Nome School House for tours of the woolen mill AND the fully renovated school house. Morning and Afternoon tour groups on Wednesday, Feb 8 and Saturday, Feb 11 will come together for a catered lunch and an opportunity to stop at the gift shop (think wool boot liners, needle felting kits, and more!) Cost is $55 and includes lunch. Register here.

March is a big event, and we hope you’ll be as excited as the Excursions team. On March 17th our motor coach will depart for the Minot Prairie Quilt Festival! The 11 am departure means participants can register for the Friday banquet if desired, as well as any Friday evening or Saturday classes, lectures and the Saturday luncheon if desired. AND, we get to see all the quilts…and visit all the vendors before our 5 pm departure back to Fargo.

Although the Excursions Team tried to make this an all-inclusive trip, existing hotel contracts and the variation in prices for individually desired activities didn’t allow that. The $75 fee covers the motor coach expenses. Quilt show admission, classes, meals and hotel room reservations must be made individually. Links and details are provided on the events page.

June will find us once more on our way to St. Cloud for the Minnesota Quilt Show which was such a blast last year. The quilt show is huge, the vendors are countless, the spending was out of control, and the laughter on the bus was contagious! Who knows, perhaps we’ll fill TWO busses this year! Registration and pricing information will be available later in the spring.

Other events/venues we’re looking at include a summer excursion to Crooked Lane Farms for a barn quilt class, and an October day trip to the Northern Lights Quilt Show in Grand Forks.

The Excursions Team couldn’t stop at 2023…for 2024 we’re investigating an overnight bus trip to the Bismarck Quilt Show AND our most exciting event of all – a trip to the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska in July 2024 – with quilt shop stops along the way to and from Lincoln!

We’ll keep you posted as details are confirmed.

Registration is now open for Emily Reynolds Costume Collection, Nome School House and Minot Prairie Quilt Festival excursions. Space is limited for each event. Register early!
