Virginia Dambach’s original design was made for a challenge by Mary’s Quilt Market. The challenge was to interpret the first line of a book. Virginia was surprised that “It was a dark and stormy night” was written by Madeline L’Engle and not Snoopy. It’s from “A Wrinkle In Time”.Virginia Dambach’s stellar estate sale skills are on display from this hand appliqued wall hanging from the 1920s– when Egyptian fever swept the country following the discovery of Tutankhamun’s Tomb in 1922.Judy Gnoinsky showed this beautiful quilt made of metallic shimmer fabrics from a pattern from Tropical Trio and using a quilting design by Doug Leks.Clare Degerness showed an original design round robin “Autumn Forecast” that had be languishing in her UFO pile since 2010. Clare made the center block and borders were added by Ryn Pitts, Barb Bunnell and Virginia Dambach. She recently completed it for hanging and incorporated a gnawed on stick she scavenged from her cabin contributed by one of the lake’s busy beavers.Clare showed another round robin quilt “Trinadad” featuring her center block and added to by Julie Richardson, Ryn Pitts and Lona Daley Getz. This UFO from 2012 has now reached completion thanks to the 2023 Resolution Challenge.Clarice Erickson’s small baby quilt began as a set of blocks found at a second hand store as did the angel lap quilt. Clarice also completed two more small quilts using the pattern “Falling Charms”. She scored a pack of charm square from the Free Table at an FM Quilters meeting .OOPS! This is the Falling Charms quilt on the left of the previous photo when it’s turned right side up!Maybe not a quilt, but Amanda Abelman showed “Dr Suess Balloon Ball” to everyone’s delight. A set of Templates are used to piece the cover and them a baloon is blown up inside it. If the balloon pops, another balloon can be blown up inside to take its place. Amanda said she comes from a family of science fiction fans. This very long quilt displays come gorgeous panels with that theme.Payton Abelman brought her first quilt top for show and tell. She did all the piecing and cutting herself using a pattern from Sisterhood. It’s call “Z or N or Zen”.
