FM Quilters Win Ribbons At Quilt Show

Virginia Dambach and Aura Lee Mohrer won ribbons at the Tell The Story Quilt Show at Mary’s Quilt Market in Arthur, ND.

Virginia’s quilt “It Was A Dark and Stormy Night” won second place in the small quilt catory. Her moody quilt was inspired by the opening line of A Wrinkle In Time by Madeline L’Engle and (to everyone’s surprise) not Snoopy’s perennial unfinished novel in the Peanuts comic strip.

Aura Lee’s quilt won the People’s Choice award. The art quilt design was inspired by the first line of Fahrenheit 451 “It was a pleasure to burn.” The dystopian science fiction novel is set in an America society where books are outlawed and burned by government firemen dedicated to eradicating all books because they present ideas the government can’t control.

Aura Lee’s flame shaped quilt features the covers of some of books that are currently banned in many school and public libraries, including Fahrenheit 451.

The show was on display April 24-29th. Mary said the show was so popular, that she will repeat the contest again in 2024. Be on the lookout for next year’s call for entries.

Here are more quilts from this year’s show.
