Seeing Quilts In Person Is Experiencing The Joy of Quilting

One show you will see on our excursion this summer to the International Quilt Museum. . .
Victoria Findlay Wolfe is an international award winning quilter, and is also an author and fabric designer who creates and sells quilting kits. This exhibition will show a selection of her most recent quilts at the International Quilt Museum. Sign up for our July 16-18 bus excursion and revel in 3 days of quilting related fun!

Born in Minnnesota, Victoria’s fabric art celebrate the quilting heritage handed down by her mother and grandmother. “(My) mother, my grandmother, was an avid QUILT maker and her QUILTS have inspired me all my life. To be a little girl buried under her warm quilts during the Minnesota winters was wonderfully comforting. As I grew I was transported into the world of color by the color in her crazy QUILTS and as I got older I used my sewing abilities in my art, which was frowned upon at the College of Visuals Arts in St. Paul for being “too crafty”.

Pursing a career in fine art in New York City, Victoria kept her sewing skills sharp by sewing garments for herself and in the end, came back to quilting as her form of artistic expression.

“My approach to QUILTING  is very much the way I draw. I use warm up excercises to get me started… 15 minutes at a time…15 minutes of “play” and inevitably a QUILT idea emerges.”

I love QUILTING for myself and I love QUILTING for other people. It makes me very happy to be commissioned to make a QUILT for someone who I know will cherish it. A QUILT I have made keeps me attached to the people who live with it and that, besides my loving family, brings me the greatest joy.

Victoria’s colorful quilts are a wonderful combination of modern sensibilities and traditional quilt patterns. See an exhibit of some of Victoria’s iconic quilts when we spend the day at the International Quilt Museum.
