FM Quilter Kim Baird Identifies One Of The Oldest Quilts In America

A recent article in the Fargo Forum is causing quite a stir among quilt historians throughout the region and the quilting world.

FM Quilter Kim Baird heard rumors that the Ulen Museum had a very old quilt donated to the museum years ago and, as a textile expert and quilt historian, was intrigued enough to make a trip up to the county museum that had the piece in its collection. What she found fascinated her.

After careful examination and analysis of the quilt, and research into the provenance of the quilt and geneology of the donor, Kim has been able to determine that the linen quilt began its life as the skirt of a wedding dress in 1769.

For more details about the find, visit the Fargo Forum article which also has video of the news story filmed by WDAY.

Kim will be presenting a program about her discovery during our April 19th monthly meetup.
