Tip of the Week: Shorten Your Stitch For Paper Piecing

From Kim Stenehjem, a tip she learned many years ago in a beginning paper piecing workshop. When stitching a paper piecing block, shorten your stitch length to 1.5 mm from the normal 2.5 mm. This has two benefits:

  • The shorter your stitches, the more holes your needle makes in the paper. The more holes, the easier it is to pull out the paper when your block is completed.
  • With a short stitch, it will allow you to hit your stopping point more accurately, which will result in crisper points and seams.
