Eco-Dyeing In The Park Workshop A Success!

As is our tradition, the July meeting takes place in one of our region’s beautiful park with a picnic meal. This year, instructor Barb Zeleznik taught a class in eco-dyeing that allowed students to have fun without worrying about making a mess.

Students were provided a silk scarf that had been prepared for dyeing for Barb, and they selected foliage and flowers to lay on the scarves in an arrangement that pleased them. No two turned out alike!

After the plant material had been laid out along the scarves, they were wrapped up around sticks to make a tight bundle and were soaked with water.
The bundles were then placed on the heat in a covered turkey pan on a rack to steam away.
After steaming and cooling, the students unrolled their bundle to see what the result was.
Picking all the plant material was a putsy but necessary task.
Each student was able to take home their own unique scarf. Looks like they’re plenty happy with the results.
