Visitors to the 2024 Metro Quilt Expo were greeted at the door with the two stunning quilts that received our Best of Show and Viewers’ Choice awards.
Best of Show – Large
A collaboration of three talented quilters (Karen Boe, Marilyn Lidstrom Larson, and Barb Simons) produced “Triple Treat” which was named Best In Show – Large. Karen Boe (pictured here) says “We call ourselves “Three Peas in a Pod” and as such we decided to collaborate to design and create this wonderful piece of art. Marilyn drafted the pattern and did the piecework, Karen hand appliqued and Barb longarm quilted it.)
Best of Show – Small and Viewers Choice
Animal collage quilts are having a moment in the spotlight and Bonnie Larisson Anderson’s beautiful example of an iconic North Dakota animal received three very special awards: Best of Show -Small, Viewers Choice, and First Place in the Art Quilt – Large. Bonnie’s original design was her solo work from concept to completed art quilt. She says “Teddy is made in honor of Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota and the bisons that roam in the park. The background is hand painted on canvas fabric. The bison is made of collaged fabrics using a photo for reference. Teddy is heavily thread painted (freehand machine embroidery) and then quilted. It was so fun to see him come to life. The prairie wildflowers were free hand machine embroidered and hand embroidered.)
Photos of all the quilts entered in the show are currently being processed. We’ll post them on this website and social media as they become available. Follow us on Instagram and on Facebook.
